Finally saw Project Hail Mary in theaters with one of my kiddosβI absolutely loved it! I rarely get emotionally invested in a story, but this one got me; even made me tear up. Ryan Gosling was stellar. Now I want to go back and read the book…
Oh come on π
If you spend a week reading the Bible, parading your piety, but continue to ignore the suffering of the poor, the sick, the homeless, and the immigrant in the policies you push, you’re not following Christ. You’re just using scripture as a prop to hide behind while clinging to the powerful and upholding empty, almost mythical national (and moral) values.
I’m looking forward to this one. It’s a bit different from my usual reads…
From the description:
In Liturgies of the Wild, acclaimed mythographer, storyteller and Christian thinker Martin Shaw argues that we live in a myth-impoverished age and that such poverty has left us vulnerable to stories that may not wish us well… Combining scholarly erudition with nimble storytelling in the tradition of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, Liturgies of the Wild is a thrilling counsel of resistance and delight in the face of many modern monsters.
Although I first discovered @pluralistic@mamot.fr through his more recent novels (and the Fediverse), I can understand why so many people consider this book, one of his best. I absolutely loved it βtruly great storytelling.
Words like “boofhead” and “spiflicate” are definitely underutilized in modern English. π
